This special museum keeps records on the land improvement developments of the past 200 years in the huge bog areas in Northwest Germany. This is a unique feature for a museum. With the transformation into a public trust in 2009 the base for the continuation and refurbishing of the museum was established. Dr. Beate Bollman developed a concept for the renovation of the museum which was used as a basic guideline. With an expenditure of 900,000 R the work was undertaken in the years 2012 till 2014. For the renovation modern museum pedagogic aspects were considered and today’s technical possibilities of information transfer were used. The visitor can explore exhibits in the permanent exhibition indoors as well as in the outdoor area now without a guided tour. The permanent exhibition indoors shows four time frames of bog exploration and use till today. They are: Live on the bog – Live despite of the bog – Live from the bog – Live with the bog. The outdoor area explains in detail three exhibition key aspects – Extraction of white peat – Processing of white peat in the factory and the extraction of black peat. All measures of the renovation concept have been executed in time and within the budget. The newly designed museum has a supraregional significance and is an enrichment for the region.}, note = { \url {http://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gldocs-11858/7227}}, }
