This article describes the development of peatland studies in Greifswald based on the chronology of important actors, their achievements and publications since the early 19th century. Peatland studies developed as a transdisciplinary discipline in science mainly conducted by botanists and geologists. Special emphasis is on the preparation of the concept of „vegetation forms“, the classification of hydrogenetic mire types, the quantitative palynology and the concept of paludiculture by scientists in Greifswald. The development of peatland studies in Greifswald is closely linked with the history of the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University in Greifswald. However new structures and institutions developed and were taken into account, for instance the Greifswald Mire Centre.}, note = { \url {http://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gldocs-11858/7267}}, }
