Emission factors are estimated for the most important peatland uses, for horticultural peat extraction and for natural mires. Furthermore, the peatland areas of the German states and their proportional land-use types are estimated. By multiplying the emission factors and the land-use specific peatland areas the greenhouse gas emissions of German bogs and fens are calculated. In Germany 7,8 Mio. t CO2-C-equivalents are emitted annually from peatlands and from horticultural peat extraction and use. This corresponds to 2,8 % of the total national greenhouse budget of 2006. About 80 % of peat and peatland emissions come from fens. Differentiated by land-use, it is estimated that 75 % of the greenhouse gas emissions are attributed to agricultural use and 10 % to forestry. Peat excavation and horticultural use cause 6,5 % of peat and peatland emissions.}, note = { \url {http://resolver.sub.uni-goettingen.de/purl?gldocs-11858/7349}}, }
