%X Abstract: An old discussion on the question to what extent bogs may be regarded as discharge-regulating systems is re-examined. At first, a simple theoretical model on the linear relationship of acrotelm transmissivity and specific discharge is developed. Then the model is combined with the equation for recession of the discharge from an emptying linear reservoir. The result is a relationship between reservoir characteristics and specific discharge. This implies a non-linear behaviour of bog discharge, where the outflow shows high peaks with a rapid recession, which, however, gradually turn into low peaks with long recession times at smaller discharges. The model was tested successfully on discharge data from Raheenmore Bog, Ireland.
