N2  - Die Entwicklung der Torfindustrie in der DDR wird in drei Zeitabschnitten dargestellt: 1) Dem Zeitraum vom Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges bis zur Gründung der DDR, 2) der Zeit der Brenntorfgewinnung bis 1960 und 3) der Entwicklung der Hochmoortorf gewinnenden und verarbeitenden Industrie bis zum Jahre 1989. Eng verbunden mit der Entwicklung der Torfindustrie ist die Geschichte des Torfinstitutes in Rostock. Die wichtigsten Abbau- und Verarbeitungstechniken werden vorgestellt. Ein Überblick über das gegenwärtige Produktionsspektrum schließt sich an. Konflikte zwischen Torfindustrie und Naturschutz werden diskutiert.
N2  - Development of the peat industry in the GDR can be reported at by dividing it into three stages: 1) The time from the end of World War II until the foundation of the GDR, 2) the time of fuel peat production up to the year 1960, 3) the development of raised bog peat production and treatment up to the year 1989. This development has a close relation to the history of the Rostock Peat Institute. The main excavation and treatment techniques are described. A survey is given on the recent production spectrum. Conflicts between the interest of peat industry and nature's conservation are discussed.
